Positively Postcards: Quilted Keepsakes to Save or Send (That Patchwork Place)ReviewsExcellent book, just what I was looking for. Shipped promptly and in great condition. I purchased this book as part of my research on how to create fabric postcards. This book is very inspirational from both a "how to" and a "design" perspective. I have discovered that there are many ways of putting a postcard together and this book gave me the basics and then "permission" to experiment, which is what I have been doing. The sample postcards illustrated in the book are pieces of art and, once again, gives you "permission" to be creative. This is one of my favorite quilting books ( as a quilter, I have a few). It is a colorful inspiring book with clear directions on creating quilted postcards. Often the cover of a book will picture the only good samples in the book. Positively Postcards has tons of beautiful postcards pictured that you can give you ideas. A couple of weeks ago, I was looking for a new creative outlet when I came across this book in a local bookstore. I was immediately taken with the thorough instructions and beautiful full large sized pictures. I have read it cover-to-cover several times to digest all the details and I have already begun to make my own postcards. I haven't been disappointed in my own creations because the author has really inspired me to be creative on my own and not just copy everything in the book. I have begun to see artistic possibilities everywhere and I am thinking of forming my own group of postcard quilters by showing others this creative and quick method of quilting. I highly recommend this to anyone that needs complete step-by-step instructions but also ideas and inspiration. I've bought several post card books before and I find that this is my favorite one of all. She also has kits you can purchase and they are very easy to make. Just a lovely book. Quilted Memories: Journaling, Scrapbooking & Creating Keepsakes with FabricReviewsThis is the first craft book that I actually read. I mean, I usually just skim these sorts of books for what I need, but this book was so intriguing, inspired and well-written, that I was compelled to lay in bed and read the whole book. It is just wonderful. There are some nice instructions for those that want to make similar projects, but the beauty of this book is the inspiration it gives for coming up with your own unique pieces. Incorporating my photography with my sewing has become a goal of mine, and this book gives me basically all I need to get started on doing so. I HIGHLY recommend this one. Every time some one sees my book I am compelled to purchase them one as a gift. I am on my forth book. Everyone I know loves this book! If I never picked up a needle, I'd still want to have this book. It is beautifully written and photographed. Instructions are very clear and make it all seem so simple. This book certainly takes the fear out of the idea of quilting. Lesley has done a fabulous job blending the arts of quilting and collage. Pages and pages of wonderful photographs to inspire you to pick up that needle and head for the scrap bag. A wonderful book for multi-tasking, multi-talented people who love to put creative personality into their craft projects. Riley's instructions and ideas make for page after page of motivation to create your ownn original family heirlooms."Scraps: Adventures in Scrapbooking" got me into the joys of cropping and journal-keeping, and this book motivated me to take the next joyful leap. Traditionally, quilt making truly IS a form of fabric collage. How cool, to see the directions in which narrative quilting is moving! It's expertly shown to those of us lucky enough to run across this swell volume by Ms. Riley. And we realize from the eye candy, ideas, inspiration & techniques illustrated in this charming (& nicely made!) book, that it's not the size of a project that guarantees its impact. I especially love the "Gallery of Quilted Memories" beginning on page 110. Each example is a small treasure of the four elements I listed above & something to which I will continually return.
