Baby Quilt Patterns
Quilt art, sometimes known as art quilting, is an art form that uses traditional quilting techniques to create art objects. Practitioners of quilt art create it based on their experiences, imagery, and ideas rather than traditional patterns. Quilt art generally has more in common with the fine arts than it does with traditional quilting. This art is meant to be hung on a wall, though exceptions exist.
Making quilt art
A quilted work of art is generally defined as two layers of cloth held together by stitching. In most cases, a middle batting layer is also incorporated.
Although quilted art originated in traditional quilting techniques, quilt artists now may use many different processes to create their artwork, including painting, dyeing, stamping, piecing, collage, printing (often incorporating a photograph printed onto fabric), applique, and other complex cloth processes.

Our Best Baby Afghans (Leisure Arts #2853)ReviewsI purchased this book a while ago at a local store here in town. I started doing the pattern called the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and that is my favorite pattern. I love this book because it's easy to follow and you can do these patterns even if you are a beginner. If you are looking for a good crochet book for baby this is it! I belong to a group who makes afghans for MD Anderson Pediatrics Unit. We all (16 members) have this book and use it for many of our projects. The book was in great condition, the price was right and it was shipped within the time frame that was given. I have had this book for 10 years. I have misplaced it and crying the blues. It has beautiful afghans that will suit any taste. I have made about seven differant afghans. Several of them more than once. I gave in and ordered another copy of this book. You must buy this one. Very please with the book and condition of the book for the price. Will enjoy trying new patterns from the book. Average Rating:![]() |

Quilts for Baby: Easy As ABCReviewsThe book is useful, easy to understand and very nice designed. I got bad luck with the shipping, the seller put the book in an envelope and glued it with an huge amount of liquid glue, it ruined the book, the pages were all glued together in the bottom and ripped when I splitted to open it. I like the book so much anyway, I'm taking advice of it. Maria This is a very good book for basic quilting It was a used book and it came in new condition Very pleased. I especially liked the step by step review. I own several baby quilt books but keep coming back to this one. The directions are outstanding--clear and easy to follow. I have completed and given away FOUR quilts from this book and and am starting a fifth. I prefer traditional patterns used with fun fabrics--and the photos are great inspiration. I used this book for the first quilt I tried all on my own--no class or teacher, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to make a baby-sized quilt. The directions on binding are the best I have seen anywhere! This is a good book but it would be easier to pick out a blanket pattern if the pictured blankets used more solid fabric. Some of the colors are bright and fun but the quilt pattern is lost in all the crazy fabric. It gets to be too much and all the patterns start looking the same. 10+ quilts - based on simple piecing squares and novelty fabrics. A good beginners book but not what I was looking for. Reikes shows how simple patterns coupled with novelty and patterened fabrics create an eye-catching quilt, including a number of variations on quilts by simply varying the colour scheme. - Includes excellent how-to and what-is descriptions for the beginner. - Covers basic one-patch, framed one-patch, four-patch, rail fence, log cabin, log cabin with dominant centre square, courthouse steps, hourglass, friendship star, shoo fly, esy attic windows. Quilts, Baby!: 20 Cuddly Designs to Piece, Patch & EmbroiderReviewsI could use many words as descriptors about this book. Delightful, refreshing, enchanting , appealing - one of the best little quilt books I have come across in a long while. I was not sure that I would be the best reviewer for this book because I don't make a lot of baby quilts any more. Boy! Am I ever glad I decided to have a look! This is one of those books that screams originality. The patterns are simple - and simple is a favorite with me - but each quilt also features the addition of something that makes the quilt special, endearing and enchanting. Looking at the table of 'contents' section tells you that these quilts are just plain fun. The beginning of the book focuses on a very well thought out 'quilting basics' section. The book is also peppered with great short-cut ideas. A combination of captivating hand drawn images as well as photographs makes reading the directions, for the 'basics' as well as for the quilts totally enjoyable. Quilt directions are beautifully done - exemplars of the quilts are shown in sketches as well as photographs. The book contains 12 simple quilt designs - each of which has an added, endearing, element. Folk artsy, colorful, embroidered and unique additions to each design makes these simple quilts stand out. The ideas are, of course, great for a child - but also for the adults in the crowd who look for a touch on whimsy in everything! The designs are great for beginner's, especially with the wonderful 'basics' chapter to guide them, but also would be winner's for adults as well. There are also lots of tips and tricks for applique, embroidery, quilting, bindings and how to add fun elements like small pockets. This book makes me smile. It makes me want to put more fun back into my quilting. I have always thought that rules are made to be fiddled with (once you know the basics anyway) and this book , I think, proves me right. This is one book that will please quilters of all ages - and I am sure that if you buy it - you will find yourself smiling too! I love handmade items and have recently gotten into quilting. However, I don't like 'traditional' quilts, like flying geese patterns but rather more contemporary looks. This book is very inspiring, offering 20 designs that you never thought you'd see on quilts, very unique and contemporary. I gave it three stars because the instructions and diagrams are pretty basic. If you want step by step, detailed instructions on exactly what to buy and how to cut it, this isn't for you. If you're comfortable with winging it, you'll enjoy the book. If you like traditional quilts, this is not the book for you. But if you are a hipster quilter who likes non-traditional and contemporary quilts, then you are going to love this book! There is not a single quilt in here that I don't like - I can't wait to whip one up! This is a great how-to book for baby quilts. I am one of the quilt designers (lemongrass and intersection quilts) and I feel HONORED to be included in this wonderful book along with such amazing artists. I love the modern, non-cutsy designs. They are all very easy to make. Instructions are great. One negative review said the book was juvenile and simple. I agree! The title of the book says exactly what the book is about: easy baby quilts that can be done in a weekend. Very cool book. I love this book! I am happy to find a book about baby quilts that is not all pink and blue ooey gooey sweetness. These quilts were created by artists yet they are not intimidating but are inspiring and see absolutely doable. The quilts in the book inspire me to be creative and to have fun sewing (I especially love the dog in the red shoes!) The writing style is witty, the book layout is a delight and it is the first baby quilt book I have ever seen that makes me want to say, "Hey! Baby quilts can rock!" Average Rating:![]() |
