Quilt Pattern
Broderie Perse is a method of applying a fabric, originally the colorful Chintz type fabrics of Europe, onto a background by hand sewing. This was done in order to randomly decorate it or establish a pictorial scene upon the background.
The efforts were turned into coverlets or quilts and became most popular in the 17th Century and possibly earlier in some cases with Indian Broderie Perse findings. The Chintz fabrics were used due to the firm outlines of the figures woven into the fabric, the images were not usually blended into the next image, there was clear space around where the picture could be cut out, as if it were in a coloring book with a line around the outside. Thus when cut just outside the lines of those images, say a flower or bird, the artist would then take the cut-out motif and apply it onto the background fabric of the project with tiny stitches matching as close to the same color as possible. This technique made the end product look like the picture was printed on it. This can be seen as an early method of fabric puzzle piecing. The placement of the cut-out motifs onto the quilt or coverlet background was usually made into a breathtaking setting which one would definitely classify as an heirloom.
Broderie Perse was for show and these bedcoverings were often left unlined to be used for summer guests. Whether they were layered and quilted or not they were saved for special occasions.

Electric Quilt(R) 5: Complete Quilt Design SoftwareReviewsEQ is a complicated program, and when one wants to make something truly their own, it is impossible to figure out. Some of the interfaces are not friendly, IMHO, and this program could be a lot easier. Will continue to muddle through... If you are trying to decide between EQ5 and EQ6, going with EQ6 is the product to choose. I tried to work with EQ5 to try to save some money, and there are some functions missing that I need - and EQ6 has them. I am specializing in New York Beauties quilts, and EQ6 has a pre-made grid for making blocks with curves, and spikes, so you can draw your own. If you import New York Beauties patterns into EQ5, (and have copyright permission), you can modify them slightly, but you cannot change size or number of spikes, etc., without a lot of trouble, because there is no grid to start out with. I also understand that EQ6 is much more user-friendly. I look forward to that. You can do a lot with EQ5, but it can be like jumping through hoops to get your quilt pattern put together. I love it.I am just learning to use the software, and there is so much that I can do with it with it now.I can see many hours of fun selecting fabrics, blocks and quilting patterns. This has gotten my creative juices flowing.I highly recomend it to any one interested in Quilting softweare. The Quilter's Album of Patchwork Patterns: 4050 Pieced Blocks for QuiltersReviewsThis book shows every imaginable design and then some, not a beginner book as it's short on how to's. Experienced quilters can use to create their own blocks. Fun to look through. This book is very complete with types of blocks and history of each block with all the names the blocks are known by. It is very heavy. As a new quilter I guess I wanted a little more pattern/construction help. It will be a great book to have as I progress in my quilting. Excellent book. A heavy book, but if you are wanting to find and a particular type of block or an individual quilting lbock for a quilt top, then it is most likely in this book. The grid sheets are a great resource to use in making the blocks also. Well worth the money I spent to have this in my quilting book library. This book is marvelous, a real source of inspiration for every quilter. I am very grateful for the immense endeavour spent by Jinny Beyer to get this book published. The price? very reasonable, even cheap for what it offers. Yan This book is inspirational and the gold standard of quilt blocks. If there is one book for the serious quilter to own, this is that one. Jinny Beyers process for looking at a block and converting it to a pattern is outstanding. The indexes and guides within the book cover just about any type pattern style I have dreamed up. This will keep me happy for years. Average Rating:![]() |

Liberated Quiltmaking IIReviewsI was disappointed by this book because many of the quilts were featured in other books that I already own. Sorry Gwen, but compared to Liberated Quiltmaking (I) the book is mediocre. I couldn't wait to get this book because Gwen Marsten's original Liberated Quiltmaking is my all-time favourite quilting book and most the inspirating. Many of the seminal pieces from that book are reprinted in Liberated Quiltmaking II. From my perspective, few new ideas are offered in II. If you missed your chance to own a copy of the original book grab this one; but if you already own the first, only buy this if you're a collector. I have read all of Gwen Marston's 'Liberated' quiltmaking books, and this is just wonderful! It is full of 'out-of-the-box' ideas, many of which were covered in her first Liberated Quiltmaking book. I wish they would bring her first book back into print, which is the best of the best in this quiltmaking style. But since the publishers haven't, this is the next best thing! Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys creating quilts, not just copying someone else's pattern. I refer to this book often for ideas for different components of the projects I'm working on. I loved the last chapter which highlights some Liberated quilts by other gifted artist-quilters. Thanks to Gwen Marston for inspiring more quilters to expand their creativity! It's always a shame when one's favorite books go into out-of-print mode. Especially when you refer to them very often, it's nice to know that another is available on order. Liberated Quiltmaking II is better, though, than reprinting the original, in that we see that Gwen has only sharpened her eye and techniques over the years since the original liberated book appeared. Gwen's ideas were radical thinking and sewing in the early '90's. While some famous quilters have "borrowed" Gwen's original approach to quiltmaking and called it their own, it's nice to see the source still has juice! Highly recommended for all levels of quiltmaking and quilt collecting. Gwen Marston has done it again! Another fabulous book. I have all of her books and this one is over the top! Thanks Gwen! At long last! Gwen Marston has updated her signature Liberated Quiltmaking! The fascination with Gwen's Liberated Quiltmaking has generated a demand for more, more, more!
